Connect an AI assistant
Let Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app answer questions from your Timekeep data, and disconnect it when you no longer need it.
Updated Oct 9, 2026
An AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can answer questions like "Who has clocked in today?" from your Timekeep data. The assistant can only read. It cannot change anything, and it sees only what your role sees in the dashboard.
Before you start
- AI connections are not on for every business yet. The AI page shows in the sidebar only after the Timekeep team turns it on for your business. If you do not see it, contact support.
- Any role can connect an assistant for their own login.
- You need an AI app that supports custom connectors. Look for "custom connector" or "MCP server" in your AI app's settings.
Steps
- Go to AI. The Connect an AI assistant card shows your Connector URL.
- Click Copy beside the URL.
- Add the URL to your AI app. The card lists the steps for each app:
- In Claude on the web or desktop, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it Timekeep and paste the URL.
- In ChatGPT, add the URL as a custom connector in developer mode. Not every ChatGPT plan allows this.
- For Claude Code and Cursor, the card shows a command and a configuration to copy, each with its own Copy button.
- The AI app opens a Timekeep page. Sign in if Timekeep asks you to.
- Check the page. It names the app, your business and your email, and lists what the app will be able to read.
- Click Allow access, or Cancel if you do not trust the app. After you allow it, Timekeep sends you back to the AI app.
What happens next
The app appears under Connected apps on the AI page, with the date you connected it and when it was last used.
What an assistant can read depends on your role. The card lists it under With your role, an assistant can read. For example, an owner's assistant can read who is clocked in, the employee list and pay rates, attendance, schedules, leaves, payroll runs and holidays. A bookkeeper's assistant can read only payroll runs and holidays.
To stop an app, click Disconnect on its row, then Disconnect again. It loses access at once. To use it again, someone has to connect and approve it again.
The owner sees every app connected in the business, with a Connected by column, and can disconnect any of them. Other roles see only the apps they connected.
Common problems
- There is no AI item in the sidebar. AI connections are not turned on for your business. Contact support to ask about it.
- The Timekeep page says "Can't connect." Read the message on the page. "AI connections are not enabled for this company." means the feature is off for your business.
- The assistant cannot answer a question about pay. Your role may not include that page. The assistant sees only what you can see in the dashboard.
