Edit or delete a shift
Change a saved shift's times, break or rest days, or remove a shift you no longer use.
Updated Oct 9, 2026
A shift is a saved template of times, break and rest days. Timekeep copies it into each schedule you create from it, so the two are separate afterwards.
Before you start
- You need the owner, manager or supervisor role. Schedulers can see Shifts but cannot change it.
- Changing or deleting a shift never changes schedules already on the calendar. Only the schedules you create next use the new version.
Steps
Edit a shift
Go to Shifts and find the shift in the list.
Open the menu at the end of the row and click Edit.

The row menu on Shifts, with Edit and Delete. In the Edit Shift dialog, change any field. The fields are the same as when you created the shift.
Click Save Changes.
Delete a shift
- Go to Shifts, open the menu at the end of the row, and click Delete.
- Click Delete in the Delete Shift window to confirm. A deleted shift cannot be brought back, but you can create it again with the same details.
What happens next
The list shows the new times right away, and the next schedule you create from the shift uses them. Schedules made before the change keep their old times, and deleting a shift leaves its schedules and attendance as they are.
To move people already scheduled onto the new times, edit those days on Schedules. You cannot create a second schedule on a day that already has one, so remove the old schedule first if you want to recreate it from the edited shift.
Common problems
I edited a shift, but the calendar still shows the old times. This is expected, because schedules keep their own copy of the times. Update the affected days on Schedules.
There is no menu at the end of the row. Your role can only view shifts. Ask an owner, manager or supervisor to make the change.
